My Totoro Pinafore~

Hi everyone!
How has 2016 been treating you so far?
If you read my previous post, where I talked about my resolutions, you might remember that I mentioned wanting to go cruelty free. With this I decided that I wanted to make more of my own clothes! I always tell myself to sew more, but I never really get around to it. Over vacation however, I was able to make this really cute totoro pinafore-style skirt, so here are a couple of photos!
I'm wearing a light sweater from Obey underneath~
I put a little totoro applique at the bottom of the skirt~ It's very fluffy!

I also embroidered a little tree sprout at the top- it was my first attempt at embroidery like this, but I'm quite happy with how it turned out!

On the whole I'm really proud of how this pinafore turned out! I hand-made the pattern, and aside from the straps being a bit too long, I think it turned out pretty well!
Short post today, but I hope you liked it!
Thanks for reading!
Bye bye!~

十月二千十五- October 2015 Favorites~

こんばんは、 ともだち!
Good evening friend!
Didja see what I did there with the kanji in the title? :3 Trying to practice my Japanese~
But anyways, today, I thought I'd write about my favorites for the month of October!
I'm not much of a Halloween person, so there won't be any Halloween-y favorites here- sorry!
Let's start!

Is it okay if I start with something I made? I'm going to say that it is, because it is my blog after all :3
I really want to do art/crafty stuff more often, so I thought that each month I'd post a favorite drawing that I've done, as well as something that I've crafted.
I love Madoka Magica, it's one of my favorite animes, so I wanted to make some things from it!
(If you don't know the anime this will all sound like gibberish to you, so skip down to the next favorite ^_^)
Above, going from left to right, is Sayaka's soul gem, Homura's grief seed, and Madoka's soul gem!
They took very long to sculpt, but I'm really happy with the end results. I had never really done such detailed sculpting, and although they didn't turn out perfectly, I'm quite happy with the end result ^_^

"Forest Candies"

My favorite drawing that I've done this month is this one!
I really like drawing skulls, so I just started this as a sort of quick, fun piece. I'm also fascinated by the wide variety of mushrooms that there are in the wild, so I just drew a bunch... cause fun? Some of them look really unreal, but I did them all from reference photos, so they all exist in the wild, which I think is really cool!
Anyways, now that my nerdy ranting is over, let's move on!
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream
My skin has been pretty dry lately- I'm not sure why that is, but I apply this cream every night and it helps! I think it's only $10 at Sephora, and it works magically. You can use it anywhere you have irritated/dry skin. I have pretty sensitive skin, but it works quite well for me and hasn't caused any sort of irritation. Plus, it smells like a cream from my childhood that I used whenever I had a cold, so every time I use this is gives me a burst of nostalgia~ (The scent isn't strong; it's just slightly herbal).
Shishedo Water in Lip Lip Balm (Pear Flavour?)
Going along with dry skin products, this lip balm is great for dry lips! It glides on smoothly, doesn't feel sticky, and smells great (like pears!) It's a bit pricier than your average lip balm, I think it's around $6 on Ebay? But, it's definitely nicer than most of the other lip balms that I've tried in the past. I really like it ^_^
Shiro Cosmetics
I got these eyeshadows a few months ago from the online shop Shiro Cosmetics. They make a lot of "nerdy themed" beauty products- so Harry Potter themed, Game of Thrones, Pokemon, etc. I think the quality of these products is great! One of my favorites is Alpaca Picnic (the pink shimmer one on the left). I'll have a review of all of these (as well as a lip balm from Shiro Cosmetics that isn't pictured here) up in a little bit ^_^
Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer!
Ahhhh I love this game so much! I got it a little while ago and I'm absolutely obsessed >u< I'm sure that most of you have heard of the Animal Crossing game series, but this isn't really like any of the other games. You sort of just go around making houses/rooms/venues for the villages in your village! They tell you what sort of things they like, what they want, and then you design it for them! You can also make hospitals, schools, and other such places, which I think is really cool!
This game is a great way to unwind after a long, tiring day. So much cuteness!
EyeCandy Pom Pom Earrings
I wrote a review for these a few days ago, so check it out here! I really love these earrings so much ;u; They're very big, so they draw quite a bit of attention, which I love >u< I think they go with a lot of different outfits- and I've definitely been wearing them too much, but eh, what can I say? Who wouldn't want giant puffballs hanging off of their ears? :3
Anyways, that's all I have for this month's favorites!
Thanks for reading!
Bye-bye!

Kawaii Checkered Strawberry Nail Tutorial~

Hey hey hey~
Today I've got something out of the usual... a nail art tutorial!
I haven't done one of these before, but I figured I would.
In eighth grade I was absolutely obsessed with doing nail art (first year of highschool too), and I thought I'd try it again, since it's been quite a while- I rarely paint my nails nowadays.
This is a look (if you can really call it that?) that I think is super cute for the summer, because of the strawberries and sparkles~ It's relatively simple, and doesn't require toooo much coordination (in my opinion).

Let's start!

Start with clean nails! Shape them however you want, either using a nail file or nail scissors.
I also suggest pushing back the cuticle using a cuticle pusher thing~

Apply a base coat- this will protect your nails. The one I'm using is the 'Pink Gel Coat' by Perfect Formula (they sell it at Sephora, if you're curious). I really like this top coat because it adds a slightly pinkish sheen to your nails, which looks really cute~
For creating the checkerboard technique, I'm using tape as my helper! Using tape really helps to keep things neat. Since the tape I use is clear, it's a bit difficult to see which part of my nail has tape or doesn't- the part where the blue arrow is pointing does not~ By blocking off the other sections, you guarantee that you'll have a nice, neat line where you took off the tape~
Put nailpolish on the exposed part of the nail- it's okay if you go over onto the tape. After ten seconds, remove the tape (you don't want to wait too long- otherwise the nail polish might be removed where you want it to stay).
Repeat for the rest of your nails! The color I used is Set in Stone, from Sally Hansen's "Hard as Nails" series.
I then repeated the steps for the opposite quadrant of my nails- just be sure that the first part you painted is dry before you put tape over it- otherwise the tape might tear off the lacquer, and that would be unfortunate.

Decoration time! I'm using rhinestones I got from a crafting store, as well as strawberry slices from a nail art wheel I got at Claires. You can add however much or however little you want to your nails- I didn't have enough strawberries to put them on each of my nails, so I just put one on my thumb and one on my ring finger (typical accent nails).
I decided to put rhinestones on each nail, but I didn't use the strawberries as much~
You can stop here, or you can go even further...
with glitter!
If you're curious, the two colors are Pantone's Elemental Energy Lacquer in "Air" and Revlon's Nail Art Moon Candy in "Satellite". One is more pinkish than the other, so I thought it'd be fun to use both~
Here's just a single coat of the nailpolish
I finished up with another coat of sparkly polish, added a topcoat (the same polish I used for the base, because I love the sparkly effect it has), and voila! That's it~

Anyways, I hope you guys liked this ^.^ I'm not a nail art expert in the slightest, but I thought it'd be fun to try something new and to show you guys how I do my nails~
Thanks for reading!
Ciao~
